Has anyone done a brochure for advertisement for say school sport photos if so any tips or ideas on this type of thing and if you have a pic that would be great.
I just have no idea what to do on this and I need to have it done in the next few weeks.

Thanks,
Sonya

What type of school sports photos? Are you talking about team pics for the school and the individual players? Or community leagues?

There may already be a photographer doing the sports team photos in your area, so you'll have to make the services you offer more unique. I'd focus on that, rather than trying to undercut people on prices. Offer a quality service that is somehow a cut above the rest, and you should be fine.

Well I have been told by one of the coaches if I can beat the prices even buy just a few cents I can have the job for that team. Well what this would do is open the doors for the others.

The brochure of this one photographer is very busy its down right ugly showing all the memory mates etc plaques that you can get.
Since I use MPIX I am hoping they do all this stuff I do need to check on what I can offer just in case they dont have all the same stuff.

I want mine to look good and not to busy wheres the best place to get brochures printed at I know Vista Print offers them?

Thanks,
Sonya

Don't go any lower than a few cents. And, yes, Mpix does that kind of thing. The quality of their prints is great, and the customer service is outstanding. As for printing, I'd just go to a quick print service like Kinko's.

A word of caution, if you use an athletes image in an advertisment that athlete may lose elgibility for HS and NCAA sports.

On shooting sports...If you see it happen then you didn't get it.

Oh is that a UIL Rules I didnt realize that it had to do with the pics on a brochure?

Thanks for the heads up on that so what would you do if you didnt show athletes on the brochure?
I guess use some dummy athletes but getting access to school uniforms could be an issue to.

Thanks for the KINKOs tip to.

I'd be wary of a client who takes this approach to negotiating. What's to say he won't take your prices to yet another photographer asking the same thing?

Next thing you know they're getting free photos.

Sorry to be so cynical, but that has been my experience with clients in the past. As Liza suggested make your service more unique. It seems to me that you are setting yourself up for a price war.

Even if you use a model for the athlete photos and have a model release for him/her you have to clear up any possible copyright issues regarding the school uniforms as well. I work for a company publishing free PDF travel guides. We weren't allowed to have any photos whatsoever of the athletes in our European Athletics Championship guide. Not only was it due to the athletes being very restrictive with their authorization, but ver much so also because the national uniforms are strictly copyrighted.

Thanks for the tips on this.

I will just make brochure with no athletes but advertise on the brochure we do sports photography. I will just include some pics on the brochure of non athletes LOL.

I noticed mpix has the trading cards but they are not as nice as many I have seen any suggestions where to get trading cards printed up at?

Thanks,
Sonya
