Sigma announced this lens and a companion 55-200mm as part of a SD10 Kit.

"Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC. This zoom lens was exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. The image circle was designed to match the size of the image sensors of digital SLR cameras, and......" (emphasis mine)

Notably they also announced Canon versions at the same time. Interesting!

I'm more interested in the 12-24 but this could be fun too!

Sounds like two lenses made to compete specifically with Canons new lenses introduced for the D-Rebel...

Except there's no indication its design would interfer with the 10D's mirror. The picture doesn't appear to show an extension at the camera end like Canon's EF-S lens.

We'll see.

I just read this here;

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/Html/Cameras_sd10.htm (external link)

...and it really looks like Sigma is trying HARD to market there newer SD10 as close to Canon's D-Rebel as possible,. releasing the Camera and two lenses (same focal lengths) at the same time. :)

Hmmm, maybe Canon was on to something.

Your right Don,.
I'm sure these lenses will work with any camera. Didn't mean to imply that they were "hampered" like the Canon lens to use with the D-Rebel.

Interesting. I don't think the Foveon chip is up to it though. It'll need a few more generations to get up to speed. I'm also not sure if I like the idea of the smaller lenses. If they were cheaper that would be one thing, but I kinda like the idea of shooting the 'sweet spot' on all my lenses. Yes, we are all over-buying using 35mm film-based lenses, but I'm okay with that. If nothing else it's interesting watching where this is going.
