I appreciate all of the honest answers...I have checked out all of the locations mentioned that are online and noone can compare to B&H prices..disappointed that they will not accept Paypal payments from Canada. Even the memory is cheaper $66 for 2G. Thanks for all the help, especailly about not apying duty on camera parts.

Hard to beat BH on price they have a great return policy too.

But remember if you have an issue, if you buy local its returned or exchanged much easier than shipping back to the US. In fact, I learned a lesson returning a lens to the US, you end up losing a fair amount on exchange and shipping. Credit card companies credit back about 6% or more less, than you paid, add to that shipping back, and then you have to file paper work with Rev Can to get the GST/PST back... Lose money, big headache, not so great.

If the price is within $50-100, now I just buy locally.

There is a pdf file from Canada Customs that is over 1000 pages long showing what has a tarriff and what doesn't. I use it as my guide.

Other than disposeable cameras I couldn't find any camera related gear that you have to pay a duty on. After finding out I can even get most stereo equipment and other electronics duty free I've even purchased items like negative scanners and stereo headphones from them. All MUCH cheaper than buying locally (after applying exchange and shipping).

You don't happen to have a link to this file by any chance would you?

It's a big document (over 7 MB), 1724 pages. I believe most of the photographic equipment commentary is after page 1525.

Well like I said thanks for all the advice...I took a little from everyone and I drove one hour and purchased two of the items I was after. Prices in my own town were a third *at least* more than than eleswhere. I really wanted to stay in Canada, and I really wanted to save money *cause i have none* The store I purchased from was Carsand Mosher and I decided on them because I know they will stand behind it if anything happens. I also went online to Visteck and printed off their lower prices, and I couldn't belive that Carsand matched them! So...I saved some, I stayed in Canada, and I have them to play with today!!! Happy shooting everyone!

I always compare Henry's (which is near my house) to B&H in the USA - if after shipping and taxes the B&H purchase is cheaper by 10% or more, I'll buy there - otherwise it's B&H (I"ve bought a lot from them - including my 30D at $1165 USD)...

Lenses, however, are a different story - I ALWAYS buy local in case I get an unsharp copy (I buy a lot of Sigma and Tamron).

I am going to buy an EOS 30D and would prefer to buy it from B&H given the large savings over the best Canadian price. Does Canon Canada honour the warranty of a camera purchased in the USA?

Thanks Al

Yes.

Canon cameras bought in the US or in Canada come with a USA/Canada warranty.
