I was at the Wisconsin State Fair today looking through the expo halls and ran into a professional photographers booth. The photographer saw my camera around my neck and came up to shake my hand. I told him I am was a young, eager, photographer. He told me to come look at all of his work and told me I could steal all of his ideas and use them to better my photography. Which I thought was very nice of him to say. Later I found out he was a Canon guy himself. Also, later that day, a man came passed me with a D70 around his neck, he looked at my camera, than looked back at his camera in shame.

A few months ago I was at a concert of a local celebrity and I was standing on
the fift row, more or less. I had my 20D and a rented 70-200 2.8 IS with me
and the 580 flash mounted on the 20D.

Next to me was a young girl standing of about 16 years. She had a Canon
P & S in her hands. She was standing right behind a very big man and she could not see a thing because of this tall guy. I to had difficulties in seeing something from the concert with this big guy in front of us.

I was just planning to ask the big man if I could passing true for taking a few pictures when I saw this girl asking the big guy if she could move and stand before him. This rude guy didn't even bother to answer the girl and turned his back on her again. I saw this young girl standing there with a sad face, almost in tears from the disappointment.

My first reaction was to hit my expensive lens on this guy's head for his rude behavior. But I was able to keep kalm.

Normaly I was warring the lens down along my side. I put the camera and big white lens on my chest facing forward and tapped him on his shoulder. He turned in an angry way because he tought that the girl was bother him again.
Then he looked at me, saw the big white lens and camera combination pointing right at him like a gun. I asked him very freindly if I may pass. He did a step beside without saying a word.
I took the girl by her arm and said to the guy that it was my daughter.
Whithout saying one worth he moved so we can move up and get in front of him so we could get some pictures. But in my back I was sensing his eyes who could have killed me if it were bullets.

The girl played along and called me daddy for a few times. We had a few good laughfs and ejoyed the concert and the nice pictures.

What a big white lens can do ... ;)

My neighbors are big into powered parachutes and host a fly-in every summer and I go and take pics for them. This year one of the major manufactuers of powered parachutes had a rep there with some of the newest models on display.

I was shooting with the 20D and 100-400 and when he saw me he said "Hey can I get my picture in the paper?" I said I don't work for the paper, its just a hobby. He got a little snippy with me and said, Yeah right, no one spends that kind of money on a hobby.

Which was very amusing to me because he was selling $30,000 parachutes to people who fly them for a hobby.

i was in town and stumbled apon a set for a local TV show, Byker Grove if you know it, i was snapping a few pictures and one of the "stars" looked at my camera, 350D and sigma 10-20 (not particularly huge) and she said "wow.... is that real!?"
i just paused and said "...yeah?" she repeated "wow" and left!

one of the things ive noticed about this thread is the ammount of stories where someone says its just a hobby and they are told outright they are lying... how odd!

was showing someone at work my camera (20d w/ 50m f1.4) today and the guy i've worked with for the last 8 years says to me "why have you got one of those peadophile cameras?"

i was at a loss for words as to how to answer such a stupid comment so i just looked at him until he realised what he'd said and changed the subject.

well, for the first time yesterday i got a comment, was at a water park with my friend and her summer camp kids, she had an assistant who the kids kept getitng wet, they didnt me as i had my camera, so i told her to hold it (20D with the 17-85mm lense on it), so she took it, and told the kids they can hug her and get her wet anymore cause she has the cam, it worked, then the comment

"it is so big"

i turn, lift my left eyebrow and of course say "whhhhhhy, thank you"

laughs ensued.
