Well, I'm on page 125 right now, but I'll see the end of this thread by Monday if it kills me!
I've read a lot of stalker/pdo/perv comments so far, and I can only wonder why somebody would rather use a huge white lens over one of those nice little superzooms wth 50x zoom, not including digital!

I think I got a first tonight. We went to the high school that one of our neighbors teaches at. He was involved with a fund raiser where faculty competed against other faculty in a game of basketball...while on donkeys. There's apparently a guy from Ohio who goes around doing this with his group of donkeys. PeTA was protesting in the downtown area about this all day.

So my wife, his wife, and I were watching the game. I'm sitting there alternatng between my 17-55 f/2.8 IS and my 70-200 f/4L when some kids next to me ask, "are you with PeTA?"

I guess they figured that someone with a lens that big was there photographing the donkeys as proof that they are being mistreated or something.

He's thinking all right, but it aint that your "super strong"... it must be the "something"... probably something like.. "She's Cute... We both like photography... Maybe, just maybe..." and then he went and made the stupid "it looks really light comment"... That's us guys, always thinking of the right thing to say AFTER we've said something stupid!! (Of course I don't think that, that's what my wife says...)

hahaha how very shrewd
im glad that didnt occur to me at the time though

if you can only wonder why ppl use a big prime....I assume you've never used one. 50x zooms usually produce results akin to garbage.

big primes? heaven....absolute heaven.

haha...true enough, but i didn't see any big primes in his sig when i first posted that.

i had a look at his flickr acct, and it looks like he knows enough to know that a 50x zoom would suck. ooops! sorry for doubting you trainboy!

I think his comment was more towards why a stalker/perv/pedo would use a giant white lens... as a p&s super zoom would be far less conspicuous. unfortunately, people don't really think before they judge

.... unfortunately, people don't really think before they judge

actually they think!
especially the ones with the idea that white lenses are better for perv purposes are thinking that even 70-200Ls are at least 1200mm equivalent since they tend to compare the size of their tiny point and shoot and the lens you are carrying.. I can understand them only after pausing for a second to think.. comparing the size they expect more.. its the same story when they learn the price of the lens itself too 1300$ vs 200$ ...

That's what I was talking about, since when do perverted stalker types care about IQ or know the difference between an 8MP P&S and an 8MP full frame? :p

Yup, no big lenses, I'm still young so I haven't been able to afford them yet...thanks for the vote of confidence, btw!

I'm sure all stalkers, perv's, and pedo's would love to use big white lenses, that way they wouldn't be noticed, right... ;)
