Reminds me of a photographer in Iraq during Desert Storm I was escorting from unit to unit telling me that the previous week 2 Iraqi's surrendered to him while he was taking photo's of destroyed buildings a mile away from his attached unit... Thought that was funny. It was Nikon though

being Iraqis I would have thought they would know what a gun is supposed to look like :)

"You bought another lens?" .//"I love you" was my response.

LOL Clever... I'm sure that really helped smooth things over... might have worked better if you had a diamond in the other hand!

As a working jeweler I know that We (the jewelery industry) is able to sooth most things over, well the first time anyhow....

Never heard the comment "wow, your camera looks like a bazooka!"... ;) That's what they probably thought.

While I was doing some astrophotography with my 400D hooked up to my 10" telescope, one lady asked if I could really take pictures of the stars like that. I said yes, but I have to use a big flash too.:)

While this as happened to others. I was shooting a Downhill Bike race today and was just standing at a spot about 2 miles from from the middle of nowhere on the course holding my camera / flash / battery waiting for a rider to come by and at least four to six racers walked by and asked " Are you taking pictures today ?". I really did not know what to say that was not completely smart-ass in content. So I said "Yea" and left it at that. BTW: I've shot the last 4 races of this series and most of the races know me.

Regards
Rick

Using a bushhawk (external link)shoulder mounted platform would also make matters worse with your camera looking more like a firearm...
