Stupid question, but why did you not check in the monopod?

It's not exactly in the same category of fragility as cameras and lenses...

Best regards,
Andy

I wonder if they would take the same attitude about my cane? Don't see how a monopod is all that different, and I am quite sure that I both know how to and my cane is able to do considerable damage.

My dad has a retractable walking stick that's exactly like my monopod.

I managed to get a tripod through security in 2 U.S. airports (including Newark) without security so much as batting an eye.

I was an ad agency Account Executive supervising a still photo shoot somewhere in public a few years back. Use your best "Ernest" hillbilly accent when you say,

"Are you guys makin' a movie?"

We still use that as a rallying cry in all public shoots.

I got this from my math instructor when I used my 40D (no grip) and a 70-200mm F4 IS (hood on of course).

"Holy Mackerel! Is that a freaking bazooka?"

I just got my 70-200 F4 IS, and the first comment I got on it was come jerk off at Disneyland with a smirk look that said "should have got the 2.8"

I followed it by, "I have that one at home, it weighs more and isn't as sharp as this one"

He didn't really say anything else, funny thing is he was holding a Rebel XT with a 220ex and what I think was a 18-200 siggy.. phhhh... I also got a clear view at the fact that it was in Auto (green square)

Lately I tend to be running into people who hand me their inscrutable p&s cameras and ask me to take pictures of them, usually qualified with "Since you know how to work that camera of yours, and I've seen your pictures, you can obviously do better than me [with my camera]"

No, no I cannot. I don't understand how your device operates... I understand most of how to operate my camera, I know how to get the most out of it. I can't get the most out of your camera, because I haven't taken more than 30 seconds to figure out what it's capable of, only where the freaking shutter button is.
