While at a volleyball game (Stanford v Penn St), holding the 70-200 f2.8 IS pointed at the ceiling, elbow on my knee between shots, lady behind me taps me on the shoulder, "can you move your camera, its blocking my view". I had been holding it that way for several minutes, waiting for my team to start playing well........

shooting club VB and club soccer, hoping to get back to landscape work soon.

I haven't been able to get out shooting for a while so no comments to post :(

being Iraqis I would have thought they would know what a gun is supposed to look like :)

Maybe they weren't Iraqis... There's a lot of that goin round over there.

Ok, well then as "PEOPLE" they should have recognised what wasn't a gun, given the fact that they live there NOW.

Only comments I've gotten recently were from people on here telling me to go shooting more.

"Hey, that guy looks like he knows what he is doing!" exclaims a husband to his wife as they pawn their camera off on me to take their picture.

Boy was he wrong.

my wife and I got told to put our cameras away because we didn't have a media pass at a hockey game last week

I guess the 100-400 + 40D and my wife next to me with an XT + 70-200F4 was a bit much though, lol

LOL, I was referring to an insurgent population floating in from surrounding countries. Agreed, an adult human being should be able to identify a gun, specially one who puts them to use.

While shooting baseball at night for the local paper (20D+grip mated to a 300mm f/2.8 IS L) I was positioned in a nice sport reserved for photographers taking shots of the batter:

Some guy in the crowd "Hey, photo guy? What's the zoom on that lens?" I reply: "nothing" The guy replied "Well, I bet you can spot the moon through that lens." I remark: "and without it too =)"
takes him a second to burst out laughing

when I had my nikon stuff I almost got mistaken for another person with a paintball gun and was almost shot at. I only had the d70 with 80-200 2.8...don't worry, I've switched to canon so hopefully this new white lens of mine will be more visible as a camera than a paintball gun.

Lately I tend to be running into people who hand me their inscrutable p&s cameras and ask me to take pictures of them, usually qualified with "Since you know how to work that camera of yours, and I've seen your pictures, you can obviously do better than me [with my camera]"

No, no I cannot. I don't understand how your device operates... I understand most of how to operate my camera, I know how to get the most out of it. I can't get the most out of your camera, because I haven't taken more than 30 seconds to figure out what it's capable of, only where the freaking shutter button is.

had a couple hand me their p/s camera and I put it in my pocket and said thank you I collect those.after their eyes got as big as saucers I pulled it out and took their picture
:lol::evil:
