Hahahahahahaha, you and I have something in common. I started on an S3 IS also. I got comments like "What publication are you shooting for?" It was just an S3. LOL.

I used to have a Fuji S5000 and got funny comments like that as well. If you have anything other than a shiny credit card sized box, you are presumed to be professional

Haven't actually got too many comments with my camera yet..

EDIT: Just thought of one. It was the first day I had my camera. I was at a local car meet area but it was very quiet due to rain and the sun was setting. Some guys were going to leave, and I had just the 75-300. The driver of a car stops and asks if I can take a photo, I try explaining that it won't work (I was standing 2 car lengths away at 75mm, sun setting, not using flash etc) but he insisted so I said yep all done and he just left. I guess he was disappointed when I didn't post anything on the car meet forum..

i was at vegas about 2 weeks ago walking thru the rio and i had my XTi w/ 18-55 and 430ex attached. i was walking to the carnival buffet *yum*
anyways so this guy that works at one of the counters that helps promote events like chippendales at the rio asked me if i was a photographer. i just said yea i was, his response was like "great! do you happen to have a business card?"

i unfortunately don't have business cards because im just doing this as a hobby right now, so i just told the guy "sorry, i just begun to get into photography"

Obviously...the black ones are a way better camera.

"What's the zoom on that thing?"

With the 17-40 on: "Whoa, you must get some AWESOME closeups with that thing!! It's huge!!"

Sounds like penis envy to me!!!

this was completely non verbal but amusing none the less, I was at the beach shooting surfing ( a rare thing for me actually) and had amy 30D with tammy 200-500 attached on a tripod and I was having a good time and getting the garden variety "nice camera" and "nice lens" type comments so after about 45 mins a gaggle of other teenagers pulls up, probably about 5-6 girls (good looking I may add) and 2 guys both the real "pretty boy" types, one armed with what looked like a 350D w/ sigma 70-300 and he's talkin it up to the girls he came with he gonna "the SH*T surf shots with my pro camera" couldn't help but chuckle a bit at this considering some of the break was to far out even for my 500. so he starts snapping away and showing off the pics to the girls and they're all "aww they're so far away you can barely see the surfers" and he comes back"nah you just gotta zoom in on em thats all" again I get a chuckle and I go back to shooting about 20 mins later i hear behind me "hey can i see some of your pics?" it actually kinda caught me off guard so i didn't have any snappy response i just said sure and hit the review button scrolled through some shots and let her see. "oh those are good" (i actualy thought they were crap, all to dark for my liking, i guess that what I get for having f/6.3 on the long end" she walks back over the her little group to inform them i had some goo shots, then all the girls and the guy without the camera came to have a look, actually it kinda annoyed me since they chose to come over during nice set of waves. so they leave and go back to their little picnic area and they guy with the camera gets up walks past me and just glares at me. if looks could kill i'd be dead.

this is more of a funny situation rather than any comments I get. I generally don't shoot highschool sports or even go to the games but i ended up going to the football games since one of my best friends decided to play this year. there are a lot of spoiled kids with D40's and 350D's around school and they turn out en masse for these games. which i actually think is great since they actually are giving their cameras some use. but they run up and down the sidelines of the field trying to follow the action and one day i decide to come and shoot at one of the games. they show up with small zoom and wide angle lenses. I show up with a tele lens and a lawn chair. the contrast amused me.

Why is it that I feel only one of you knows what they are doing, I like the telephoto lens and lawn chair.

Hello from Greece,

There is a famous "bird of prey" national park in my country....the Dadia forest near the borders with Turkey, where rare species of eagles and vultures can still be found.
On top of the highest hill of the forest, rangers have set up a wooden observation point with 2 Swarovski spotting scopes for the people to come and observe the birds.
I was there last August with my eos 350d, an ef 400mm f/5.6 L + 1.4x tc and my Manfrotto tripod. I placed my tripod next to the spotting scopes and started taking pictures.
Then a large tourist group came, and they started lining up behind the spotting scopes in order to have a glimpse of a golden eagle.
I was totally occupied with my shots not looking around who is coming and who is leaving....when suddenly an old lady shouts at me.............THAT IS ENOUGH YOUNG MAN WE ARE NOT THAT FOOL TO WAIT THAT LONG FOR YOU TO FINISH:shock:
I turn my head back and see around 10 people forming a line behind me....waiting to see the birds from the.....white spotting scope:lol:

Did you ask them to drop a coin in the scope in order to use it?
