hahah :)

what did you do with all those people waiting behind you?

News were spread all over the place immediately by the old lady who was anyway first in the line behind me.......THE WHITE SCOPE ISN'T A SCOPE AT ALL...IT IS A LENS:rolleyes:
Most of the frustrated people walked away but there were a few who still wanted to see the eagle through the lens...after all they have been waiting a long time in the line:mad:.
So....I let them look and their reaction was even more incredible........THIS THING AIN'T WORTH NOTHING....THE EAGLE LOOKS DIMM....I PREFER THE GREEN SCOPE TO THE RIGHT:shock:

The nearby scope was a Swarovski Habicht AT 80mm APO. I don't remember the exact focal length of the scope...I do although remember that it was equiped with a zoom eyepiece and it could "frame fill" the eagle more than my 400mm + 1.4X tc combination.
I admitt it.....visually a view through the viewfinder of my camera is no match to an apochromatic refractor:lol:

No the eagle was in focus. It naturally looked dimmer through my viewfinder.
Those that had previously seen the eagle through the spotting scope and then thought that it would be a good idea to see it again through the.....white scope this time could not understand that a camera's viewfinder can't provide an image as bright and sharp as an apochromatic refractor's eyepiece cause simply it is designed to do a different job......taking pictures:D

Well I think that minimum of f/8 might have had something to do with it as well.

Hello from Greece,

There is a famous "bird of prey" national park in my country....the Dadia forest near the borders with Turkey, where rare species of eagles and vultures can still be found.
On top of the highest hill of the forest, rangers have set up a wooden observation point with 2 Swarovski spotting scopes for the people to come and observe the birds.
I was there last August with my eos 350d, an ef 400mm f/5.6 L + 1.4x tc and my Manfrotto tripod. I placed my tripod next to the spotting scopes and started taking pictures.
Then a large tourist group came, and they started lining up behind the spotting scopes in order to have a glimpse of a golden eagle.
I was totally occupied with my shots not looking around who is coming and who is leaving....when suddenly an old lady shouts at me.............THAT IS ENOUGH YOUNG MAN WE ARE NOT THAT FOOL TO WAIT THAT LONG FOR YOU TO FINISH:shock:
I turn my head back and see around 10 people forming a line behind me....waiting to see the birds from the.....white spotting scope:lol:

Made me smile!

A quiet morning at the Everglades on New Year's morning, when a small group of tourists with their point and shoots happen by, and see me trying to back off a woodstork that fills my 40D viewfinder with my 100-400 lens contracted to 100 mm. One crowds right in for a closer, practically hands on look...
Tourist: Wow, that's a powerful camera..
Me: Yes it goes up to 400 horsepower!
Tourist: Really?
Me: Yep, and that guy over there with the tripod and the bigger camera and biggger white lens gets 600 hp on his!
Tourist: Wow--I think I'll go over there and see

which she did, to the consternation of the guy with the 600 mm on a 1 series body and the tripod 50 yards down the path...
hey--it was me or him....
