Ha ha, love the spotting scope one from Greece.

Yesterday I was at the bird sanctuary (taking pictures of course) when I had the following conversation:

Equipment was 1DII w/300mm + 1.4X II

Me - *sound of shutter several times*
Random Lady - *standing quietly next to me*
Me - *more shutter*
Random Lady - "so what type of birds are those?"
Me - "Cormorants"
Me - *shutter*
Random Lady - "are you taking pictures of them"
Me - *profound silence. . .* "uh, yes?"
Random Lady - "Oh" *walks away*

I'm too polite to give sarcastic comments to strangers. She was asking for it though!

A quiet morning at the Everglades on New Year's morning, when a small group of tourists with their point and shoots happen by, and see me trying to back off a woodstork that fills my 40D viewfinder with my 100-400 lens contracted to 100 mm. One crowds right in for a closer, practically hands on look...
Tourist: Wow, that's a powerful camera..
Me: Yes it goes up to 400 horsepower!
Tourist: Really?
Me: Yep, and that guy over there with the tripod and the bigger camera and biggger white lens gets 600 hp on his!
Tourist: Wow--I think I'll go over there and see

which she did, to the consternation of the guy with the 600 mm on a 1 series body and the tripod 50 yards down the path...
hey--it was me or him....

LOL! This makes me think of that Geico commercial where the lizard walks under the car and asks, "What kind of engine you have in that thing? A T-12?" And the mechanic says, "No... A T-12's not an engine. It's.... NOTHING!" "Would you hand me that Philips head"... LIZARD: "That's just wrong, what did Philip ever do to you?"

Nice diversion on your part to get the shot. As they say, "All's fair in love and war".

Yesterday evening, I was hidden in a corner on the road side to take a night shot of a church. Of course, I was using my tripod as it was by night. A group of young walk by and as one of them ask:

"What is he doing?"

Another answers:
"It's a speed trap"

Sorry, I couldn't find any good response, especially as it wasn't in my mother tongue and I was a bit slow to realise what they had just said...

I once had a male patron at a nightclub accuse me of not being a "real" photographer and pester me for most of the night about it.

I had absolutley no idea what his issue was. But knowing I was getting paid made me not give a damn.
