I just finished reading this whole thread. Where do I pick up my "Senior Member" sticker? :p

I've only had my camera a couple months, but it was sitting out on my desk one day at work. A coworker stopped by and said "New camera, eh?" We chatted for awhile. Turns out he'd been thinking about a dSLR for awhile, too. Shortly after he bought an XTi. So, it's not exactly a ridiculous comment, but I'm now +1 photo buddy. Now, the gear race is on.

I think you have to have 1,000 posts before you are awarded the title Senior Member.

Roy doesnt have a custom tag, I think Gold Member comes from 3000 Posts? The custom titles tend to come when you say something really stupid somewhere one of the mods will put it there.

Well, I just got my XTi but after crawling all over the floor on Christmas to get the kid's level shots, my family was in awe. They asked to try it out, and to their dismay, they couldn't understand how my XTi doesn't have live view. After explaining why I bought the camera, they just smiled and nodded and went back to their P&S's. A week later, after looking at my Christmas album on Photobucket, guess who's "old fashioned" camera helped create the photos that everyone wanted printed out?

Another person I went to highschool ran into me in college while I was looking at the POTN forums. Then he went on to ask me what kind of camera I have. I politely told him and he replied, "Yeah, we looked at that one at Sam's Club, but we ended up getting a Sony (...) P&S. Why would you buy a camera that costs twice as much, has less zoom, and therefore takes lesser quality images." I calmly showed him my "rookie" photos by the quality on this forum and all he said was "Oh". :)

Less megapixels, less zoom, screen size, blah blah blah.

When will the misconceptions about what makes a quality digital camera STOP.

Honestly... the mexapixel race is over and I'm surprised the world cant see that. Hell I was even reading a photography magazine, and in it's beginners guide page it said more megapixels = better quality.

I wanted to shoot someone.

It does KIND OF like between the 20D and the 40D, but I agree that it is pathetic when people think their little p&s is better than a top-of-the-line DSLR

It's not the more megapixels that make it necessarily a better camera.

It's the features and the IQ.
