The AE-1 logo was on the right hand side under the wind on lever and was in outlined letters... I used to have one as a backup to my F1...

Questioner: How many megapixels

my response: eight

Questioner: I have a 12 megapixel point and shoot so it must take better pictures than that big heavy thing.

my response: rolled eyes

This reminds me of a conversation I had with someone over the CO House member-kicks-photographer incident. He said, and I quote, "Why didn't the photographer just turn off the shutter sound on his camera?"

I started to explain that the photographers in question weren't using cameras which simulate a shutter sound ... but decided not to get into what would be an ultimately fruitless explanation.

I never owned a Canon AE-1, so I didn't know this. My wife did, and I shot with it a few times, but I never really liked film, so I never really got to know her camera.

It is possible I am remembering the camera incorrectly, but I would swear it said "AE-1" in bold black letters right below the hot shoe.

I think he was so downright embarrassed by his wife's behaviour and his obvious discomfort with bothering me that he might have well made up the "battery dead" story, just so he could go back to her and say, "there I made you happy, I talked to the photographer and he said the camera won't work with a dead battery". BUT, I wasn't aware of this, and I actually set my camera to his film speed to figure the remaining settings and took his camera and "helped" him out. All of this was witnessed by his wife which meant that by the time he got back to her, he HAD to take some pictures just to shut her up!

Which completely explains his exasperated, "yeah, yeah, I got her picture" responses! I just feel for the guy showing up at home after taking the film to be developed. His wife is going to be PISSED when she finds that she can't even see her daughter due to the blurriness of the photos. I can almost hear it now how it was HIS fault the photos didn't come out!

actually i got a feeling they might blame you as to why some of their pictures didn't come out

I've heard a "who owns that rocket launcher" regarding my 70-200 f/4L IS

as well as the typical "look at that camera", "wow thats a big camera", "what are you compensating for?", "is that yours?"

While I was away for the weekend. At a friends uni residence.

"Wow that thing is big" and then moved on to "Must look smaller in the morning". (Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 with BG-EG mounted).

I just giggled as I packed it away and replied with "Its more fun when it gets wider".

Me and two other local photogs were just killing some time at Harpers Ferry in WV on a nice day when a woman walked up and said that we looked like we were camera saavy (as we all had our gripped Canon DSLR's hanging around our necks) and asked if we could help her out.

She handed me her P&S saying she used to be able to get over 100 images on it and now she could only get about 15. I looked it over for a minute figuring that it was probably and image size setting, then I opened it up and looked at the SD card to find out that it was only a 16mb SD card.

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Yeah, reminds me of this guy I ran into at a Panera's. I didn't want to leave my cameras in the car while I grabbed a bite to eat, so I had both with me (30D w/ 300mm, XT w/ 24-105mm).

"My wife must have hired you," he said, and it took me a moment to realize he was joking that I had to be a private eye. (Or at least mostly-joking; he sure didn't buy my answer of "birds" when he asked what I used the cameras for.)

I wonder how many of these "rediculous comments" and "answers" are imagined?

Seriously, though, I live in an apartment complex, in an upper level. When I get new gear I typically test it out on my deck, and use a trash recycling sign maybe 50 yards away for sharpness tests. Kinda funny, I know, but it's convenient.

So, anyway, I'm out on my deck with a big rig on a tripod with all these bedrooms in view taking pics of a sign talking about trash recycling, but I sometimes wonder what "comments" some of my neighbors might think of making...
