Never confuse what the salesman tells you to upsell you with reality. :D

Like the one who told me the 70-200 2.8 IS with a 2x teleconverter will be sharper than a 100-400L. I mean, why sell me a $1400 lens when he can sell me a $1600 lens and a $250 teleconverter!

You have to understand that a salesperson is someone who has chosen—chosen, mind you—to lie for a living.

I don't know about sharper... but it's certainly a more versatile combo, assuming you ever want to shoot at 70mm or at 2.8. If you were to always leave the TC on it, then no, it wouldn't make sense.

While on a recent bus trip to New York City, I was snapping some street events with my 40D and a 24-105 lens through the front window of the bus because we weren't coming back to that area. A P&S shooter sitting behind me said to his wife, "he's wasting his time. He'll never get any shots like that." Strangely enough, nearly all of them were keepers.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

Right, but that's not what the salesperson said. He insisted that the f/2.8 aperture meant it would produce better pictures. Something that anyone with a relatively decent amount of photography experience would chuckle at.

I've got a ton of keepers through glass. Its about knowing what you're doing, identifying the reflections, etc.

Or, if it's bright enough and you have CPL, it helps a lot to negate those reflections

Happened to my friend.

Friend was talking on the phone while walking to his car after class with his 30D on his shoulder. A guy walking in front of him turned around and asked if it was a 40D.

Friend: No, it's a 30D.
Guy: 1D Mark III
Friend: What?
Guy: I have a 1D Mark III. It's way better.
Friend: Ok... it's the photog that makes the photos though.
Guy: No it's not! If you don't have a good camera you can't get good pics.

Friend: So nobody took a good pic before 1997?

I harshly criticize anything with less than 6MP, with the exception of SLRs and probably a few P&S or bridge cameras I haven't seen yet...

I've gotten some wonderful stuff with my G3 (4 MP). Of course, I can't blow 'em up much, which means that if I didn't frame right, I often can't cure it by cropping. But it can do a wonderful 8x10 if used right.

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

I was walking through the Beltline alone (!!) last month with my 1D II and a 70-200 f/2.8L that I borrowed from my school slung around my neck. (Not recommended for those built like me)
