Some guy asked me one time, is that Canon heavy?
I replied, well yes it is, that's why I use two hands to hold it! heheeee

I think to the outsider anything that is bigger than a credit card must be professional. Betcha they couldn't tell the diff between the 200mm and the 70-200 2.8 when not laying next to each other, both big and white.

Which 200mm? The 200mm 1.8 and 2.0 is white, but the 200mm 2.8 is black. but still, they wouldn't know the difference, haha.

at the wedding I was shooting yesterday I got:

"Are you the professional photographer?" I replied: "yes"
"All that equipment looks heavy!" I replied: "yes it is"
"Could you take a picture of us?" I replied "yes, absolutely"
and there were several comments about my foamy bounce Card and flag (external link). like
"does that thing really make a difference?" the guy was shooting a rebel and looked genuinely interested so I took a moment to tell him more about it he said he was going to try making one.

I really can't recall any ridiculous comments from the day though.

Oh yeah.. I was shooting some at church on Sunday with a DIY diffuser (inspired by this one (external link)) on my flash, made of a foam insert from an MPIX order and a piece of aluminum foil. Several people asked me "why do you have a bag on your flash?"

I went to the Hot Rod Power Tour today, got a lot of "Are you guys with a publication?" "Ah, professional pictures/photographer." A few other ones too. All I had was my gripped XSi with a kit 18-55....and a tripod. The tripod makes me an amazing person apparently. I'm taking that thing everywhere.

I have been shooting a Canon 300mm f2.8is for the last week at a combination of NASCAR races, Playboy Golf and CMA Fest. I keep getting the coent that my lens is bigger than I am. Also got the "is that a telescope" comment.

The guys at my soldier qualification course were surprised when I told them that my zebra-striped 70-200 2.8 wasn't a bunch of stacked lenses.

Last Saturday I had a big photoshoot at the beach with 7 models and a bunch of other photographers. We had a lot of nice equipment, such as Californa sunbounces and diffusers. You should have seen the look on the faces of the people who walked by, especially when some models started doing wet-t shirt. All the guys wanted to stay and their wives kept calling them and saying: "come on, we've been standing here long enough". Some of them even gave us an angry look.

No comment but a look that said more than a thousand words:

At an airshow last weekend with a borrowed Sigma 170-500 on my 400d chatting to my friends when one of them told me to look in the other direction. A boy was pointing to my camera and tugging at his dad's sleeve. The guy looks down, speaks to his kid and then looks at me. The look on his face when he saw the lens was priceless, his chin dropped and he stood with his mouth wide open  for a few seconds before gathering himself and moving on.

A severe case of lens envy i reckon!
