Was shooting a talent show a while ago and had my 40D + 70-200 2.8 and 430EX sitting on the tripod foot on the table in front of me. My friend walks up and sees it. He just starts laughing. Then he walks away still laughing.

I FINALLY GET TO POST HERE! :D

Today I was playing a game of slow pitch softball with a group of friends. I was behind the catcher with my 70-200 f/4 trying to get a batter, ball and pitcher shot. Soon after I crouched down, I heard the opposing pitcher say to everyone:

"Hey, we got a radar gun now!!!"

I chuckled to myself and thought about this thread!!! :)

You should have exclaimed something about a 96 mph fast ball.

At a night off-road race under the lights:

"There's something wrong with my camera, it takes a really long time to click" and her pictures where blurry. Program mode at night...

That would have made for a good laugh!

Somehow I don't think I would have been back there if it was 96 mph softball! :)

oh man, i have head that one. I was at the beach with some mates at new years, and we were going for a midnight swim. We were about 70m away with one of the girls tying to take shots with the built in flash (it was pitch black).

She came to me and asked, "How do you turn blurry mode off?"

She is actually very intelligent, just doesnt care about cameras.

This one's not just ridiculous it's downright bizarre. At an outdoor event today with my 70-300mm lens and 430EX II on my Canon 40D and a guy comes up to me and says, "You know about cameras, right?" "Well, yes, a little," I replied. "My video camera not working." The guy is Turkish, going by his accent. "Um, I don't know anything at all about video cameras," I said.

"Yeah, but your camera's more complicated! I show you my video camera, you fix it."

Speechless, I shake my head and walk away.

I've gotten a few, nothing quite as crazy as some of the ones I've read, but still good.

My chemistry teacher was about to make a fireball thingy (shows how much I paid attention) so I was putting my lens onto my camera. My chemistry partner was getting out his cell phone and and was getting all excited till he saw my camera. He just looked sad and said, "Whoa, you have a REAL camera!" I just replied with, "Well an imaginary one wouldn't work very well..."
He slowly put his camera phone away...

During photography class my friend was talking to the teacher while I was diddle daddling with my camera. The teacher was talking about how my friend should go to one of the local studios for her senior portraits. I was pretty happy when she replied, "Pff, Kelcey's a pro. I'll just go to her. She will actually make me look good!"

At my town's farmers market some lady also told me not to eat the asparagus at the store or I would die. It wasn't about my camera, but my XSi was in my hands at the time so it counts :p

I've gotten all the other comments too. "Well my camera fits in my pocket." "Is that thing film?" "That thing takes amazing photos!" "Take my picture!!" "How much did that thing cost?!" After answering that they usually say, "Holy crap my car cost less than that thing  It must be good!"

Oh poo, this got kinda long...

I was tombstoning (jumping off rocks and cliffs into the sea) a few weeks ago, which is actually illegal as of a few years ago in the UK. Not with a big white lens, but with my 24-105. And i got: "you're not going to rat us out to the police are ya?".

I thought it was pretty funny. Some people instantly think that you're getting paid to walk around with a camera bigger than a point and shoot :)

haha yeah, i think we have all had friends and family that make that mistake. When i can't be bothered to explain to somebody how to use my camera, it's always "just turn the mode dial to the little green box and shut up" :)

I always hate it when I grab my camera after my wife has "borrowed" it without my knowledge. I turn it on, lift it to my eye, roll the dials and nothing happens... I usually check about three things before I realize it is on "green box mode"!

That's funny, my wife uses Av mode, and she just pointed & shoots.

Good thing I don't have to worry about that, I'd like to see my girlfriend TRY to get my camera into "green box" mode! :p

Even if it did have one, she's too scared of even touching my gear anyway - doesn't want to break it :p
