Just got a comment today while shooting my friend singing, the rest of the band couldn't make it, at a local coffee shop.
The owner came up to me and asked, "Are you the band's professional photographer?" I just replied, "Ya you could say that..." And I got plenty of stares from others at the coffee shop too.

I don't always have my camera with me, but I was glad I did Friday night. I saw lightning in the distance, and just kept driving until I got to the beach, where I got this shot:
I've already sold one or two prints, too. :)

Amazing shot mate!

I have some mates in a band, after first entering through the wrong entrance (and getting trough thanks to having two full size bodies with 70-200/24-70 on my shoulders and TT belt loaded with other crap) getting back out and finding the main entrance, I got asked by the security if I was media, told them I wasn't... As I was walking in they shouted at me to come back, so I went back and he said "I was just wondering if you could get some shots of me, you know, on the job, for myspace..."

haha That is too funny!
My friends ask me to take their Myspace pictures a lot. They usually start off by saying "Make me PRETTY!" It can be scary at times when I say no...

Does it get scary when you tell them you will not take their picture OR when you tell them that you cannot "make them pretty",

I shoot alot of sports for school so regularly get spectators going "MYSPACE!!!" There was a time when I actually shot them, but now I've given up as it is just about every minute some guy shouts that
If they're actual friends then I normally shoot them... (and they normally don't shout at me..)
I got a ridiculous comment for *not* having a camera once... At the school ball the hired photographer (who I have shot sports/events at the same time before) comes up to me "hey, where's the camera?" Then pap's me the whole night (whenever he saw me he put his flashhead forward and did 10fps at me+partner )

Great thread. Regarding a rented Canon 100-400mm.

"Damn, you must be able to shoot a gnats ass with that thing"

I didn't even have a response, LOL.

Brad, I think you should start posting that shot where people can buy it, people would probably pay for an image like that.

To get back on topic. I had my DSLR with me yesterday and this couple holding an SD1100IS came up to me and asked me why my camera was so big. I told them that I couldn't afford the smaller digital camera's that are so popular now

A friends friend walks up to me and goes "Why do you have 2 cameras so big?". My reply "Well since my doctor said I couldn't have the 2 kids I have always wanted I went and brought them instead"

 You say what, mkIV disposables!?
My gear is well used, not bad, I know a wedding photog who doesn't *break* anything, just has slightly scratched up FEs and chewed up bodies (and loses a 5D2+24-70 for a bit of a reception )

I meant to say 1D MkII's as disposables. They're only a grand now days.
