I was shooting penguins on the beach with 70-200+2x+1.4x, which is a pretty long (physically) combo. A lady walked up and said "I won't embarrass you with my camera." It was a cardboard disposable! I assume she had forgotten her "real" camera. I smiled and said something nice, but in truth she had no hope of getting anything usable with that combo from the distance we were at.

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

Did DOC complain about dead penguins.... How has your place held up with the quakes? There is a kiwi thread over here if you haven't come across it...

Nah, I'm a lousy shot. Just a few nicks in nearby rocks. :D

We came through the quake just fine, thanks to a fortunate location and wood-frame house. My cousin's combo home/factory is yellow-tagged, though.

Thanks for the Kiwi thread pointer; I hadn't found it.

I take it that was from turning round with that rather long combo and hitting them? What length was it - about 2 feet?

We were holiday in Bruges, Belgium last year. I had my EF 28-300mm L as usual.

My son suddenly yet out: 'Hi dad, look, this guy has a lens AS BIG AS YOURS'.

But that guy had a 70-200mm, f/2.8L

Ah. Perhaps there is a comparision joke about our camera/lens vs girlfriend.

At least, my lens doesn't mind if I have looked at or have other lenses before her.

And none of my lenses have ever complained about sharing my camera body or bag.....

Come to think about it they even compliment each other There is the ultra wide, the wide, the normal and the long lenses, all eager and willing to please, well if I do my part they are ;)
