OK, that's just messed up. I just tried to view the link you posted Roger and it sends me to Sigma's "mobile website", as it has detected I am using a mobile device. WTH??? I'm using my desktop, running Windows 7!! Apparently my 60+lb desktop and accessories is considered "mobile".....who knew.....

Given a large enough forklift and there are a lot of things which become "mobile"

To be fair, a tank that is not mobile is a building!

Strange. It should have been Sigma's lens site.

Try this link:

It's dpreview's review of the lens.

In Greenland, we used a portable nuclear reactor. The condenser was only 22 tons.

Ya, I've had it happen before a few times. It's really wierd if you ask me. And I figured that was the lens you were refering to....hehe.

Hehe......Nah, this computer likes me (thus far). It was my old computer that could be considered the spawn of a demon. Thus why I sold it after I build my new one.....hehe.

Yeah, I've seen pics of that Sigma, it's pretty huge, though not as long as the Canon 1200 but I think the f/2.8 makes it more "massive".

But, hey, it's "affordable" with the MSRP at $38,000 -- just the price of a new car instead of an inexpensive house like the Canon:)!

At B&H it's (as they say on Madison Avenue) under $29,000! A real bargain compared to the MSRP!

And you're right. It's fatter but shorter and lighter than the 1200mm. 236.5×726mm, 15.7kg, compared to 228×836mm, 16.5kg for the 1200mm.

That's 9.3×28.6 in., 34.6 lbs. compared to 9.0×32.9 in., 36.4 lbs. for the 1200mm (for those of you who are metrically impaired.

And! It's available with a Nikon mount, so that Ken Rockwell can hand-hold it (since he eschews tripods)!

I saw the public debut of this beast at PMA a couple years ago...

Trust me when I tell you that pictures don't do it justice. Yeah it's big but the thing has enormous mass as well. Consider what diameter of front element you need for 800mm @ f/2.8!

I think the tactical green is a nice touch but if anyone ever drags one of those out near an airbase, they're probably going to find themselves face down in the dirt ASAP.
