What the hell?

Brad, let me just say, you leave me a lot to wonder about yourself, heh.

Let me just say, comments are nothing, it's the looks that bug me. Thinking back I don't think I've got one comment while shooting, more like a bunch of weird looks and talking to their friends while walking by about me.

I agree. I sometimes get to the point where I don't like carrying my camera around if there are a lot of people around. For some reason, I get really self-concious if a lot of people are around and I catch people looking at me. I know they are probably harmless looks but I always feel as if I'm being judged.

my favorite thing happened on a campus. i was taking photos of volleyball with my 70-200 (wish i had my 85 1.8 at the time, since 70-200 was on the short end quite a bit), and two girls walk by and wisper to each other "he must be compensating for something"... of course, that's a while ago, and people generally tend to respect my equipment nowadays (and a few respect me as well, though that's generally a low number :( )

i have had a few other comments though, like "sir, if there is an open seat in the front, you are free to take it";)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

2 wees ago at supercross, having my camera bag inspected: "sir, if you expect to stay for the whole event, you will refrain from using this huge lens." my 75-300 usm, right before he nearly dropped it. my reply was "if you expect to not have my boot up your ass, please refrain from dropping my gear"

not 5 minutes ago, a tech in our data center: wow is that a digital camera? that musta cost $4000! is it an slr? just the 300d with the kit lens and grip on it.

Canon Rebel 300D - EP-EX15 - BG-E1 - EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 - EF 28-135 1:3.5-5.6 IS USM - EF 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 - EF 50mm 1.8 MKII - EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 USM - Speedlite 550EX - 420EX w/off shoe cord 2 - opus monopod - opus umbrella kit - some filters - a few cheapie tripods - too many camera bags

Walking through the casino last night to get to the buffet, security made me go drop off my camera at the coat check. I just find it funny, because with my camera+grip+flash, you will KNOW if I'm taking pictures... Now all those thousands of camera-phones around on the other hand....

I had a brief chat with an airport screener when I last flew since things were extremely quiet at the checkpoint and I had some time to burn in transit and she remarked "Wow, that's a big camera" and I gave her a smile and said "Yeah, I'm a really enthusiastic photographer" :D it was a positive encounter.. nothing bad at all, both of us are doing what we have to do.

Betcha not many people have had the 'big camera' comment via X-ray though :D

Looking at the lens, what kind of camera is that?
Additional comments I have heard (but not experienced personally): Does your camera take good pictures? I would say, "and my mouth says nice things."

I unpacked my 70-200mm f/4 L last night and my wife, with a sarcastic tone, said "Oooh look, you can pretend to be a pro now!"

Ugh.

That is the real trick, isn't it. I did sell a shot to a friend for $1 because he wouldn't take it for free, and I wouldn't give him a price. It does get a spot in a 3 part canvas over his fireplace, and he's in England, so I'm an "international pro", right?:lol:
