A little not totally on topic to do with lenses, but
"How did you end up being tripod caddy" - random employee at blacks when my friend has his XT out, and I had my mini trekker on with my 3001 attached to it. Not sure if I had my camera out or not.

Proper answer...

Hi from a new JUNIOR member. I purchased a 20D a couple of years ago. It was my first DSLR after graduating from a P & S. I guess I embarrassed myself more than anyone else could have. I was at a concert and had a 70-200L attached. One of the lead singers walked by and posed for a pic with my wife. Of course, I panicked and went back into P&S mode. Held the camera at arms length and then hesitated when I couldn't see the shot on my LCD. I quickly regained my composure and got the shot, but I felt like an idiot the rest of the day... I don't know if the singer caught the error, but his smile sure sounded like a comment to me... :o

New years eve at the fireworks show a young chubby kid around 13 years old said "do you work for the newspaper"
I had my only white lens 70-200L.
