Anybody used this lens in anger for shooting motorsport?

I have paired it with a 1D Mk II and 30D, at 3 different circuits now, in good light.
Autofocussing is snail-like, especially if using motordrive of 3 or 5 frames per second. Duff lens or duff operator??

Paul

lens, its a slow aperature, which slows AF, plus its just not that great of a lens. It does have a nice zoom range, but whenever you cover that much range, certain qualities, namely all, are diminished

It's definitely not the best for motorsport I wouldn't think, but I've seen some simply outstanding wildlife shots with this lens. It's not "crappy" or anything...it just has its uses.

This is a first class lens at a very nice price. There are hundreds of shots all over the internet to show that.

I owned one and regret selling it. If someone wants to spend $5000's plus they will see a difference. Most people won't spend that and most shooters probably won't care at the IQ differences. I don't.

See here (external link) for owner reviews

If you are on Bigma budget and want to use the lens for motorsport then consider the outstanding Sigma 100-300mm f4.0 EX DG.
