Anyone have this problem before......

I have a speck that I just can't get rid of.....(bought the camera 5 days ago in fact)
I'm reading about sensor cleaning , loaded software on my Macbook, got the updated firmware, and there is still no option for Sensor Cleaning on the menu...

Any ideas?

Shall I unistall and reinstall the software?

Suggestions, coments, advice all welcome..

Ray

It might help if you shared with us what camera you have.

The sensor cleaning option is on the camera itself, not the computer. All it does is reveal the sensor, to allow you access to cleaning it. It does not 'clean' the sensor.

That is how it works on a 10d/20d anyway, which is my only experience.

Always check your lens first. Look at the front and the back of the lens. Much easier to clean than the sensor. If you don't see an improvement, then look into the sensor. If that's on the sensor its a stink'n stick.

First off....software has nothing to do with cleaning your sensor. Sensor cleaning is something you have to physically do...the first thing you need is a semi-strong blower...(DO NOT USE CANNED AIR)...a Giotto's Rocket Blower or a squeeze bulb from the baby department at WallyWorld works just fine. On the camera menu on the back of the camera....you will find the sensor cleaning option. Remove the lens from the camera. Turn the camera on and select sensor clean from the menu. Push the shutter button and the camera will go into sensor clean....the mirror will go up and the shutter curtain will remain open. Point the lens opening down...extend the blower tube slightly into the opening and squeeze the blower repeatedly...(do not touch the blower to the insides of the camera)...after several puffs....turn the camera off....the shutter will close and the mirror will drop back to normal...reinstall the lens and take a shot to see if the debris has been removed. Repeat as necessary....if this still doesn't work....there are alternative methods to try...but go this route initially.

Problem solved......all the tips helped....

but first......mea culpa  ....I MUST READ THE DIRECTIONS...I MUST READ THE DIRECTIONS....I MUST..ok ..I get the point......

Sensor Cleaner can only be accessed in the Creative Zones Mode on the Rebel XT...
It was just a matter of turning the dial from one of the automatic modes to P, TV, AV, M or A-dep....

Mirror up, shutter curtain was opened and there I saw, with my very own eyes, not one but two large specs which easily blew away with the Rocket Blower....(nice tip Wollburr on pointing the lens down..its the little things that make the big difference)

OK.....to bed..

Thanks again Wollburr, David Fig, Simon King and Blue_Max....

Peace,

Ray
