Looks really good. Only a tiny bit of shadow on the right side of the nose. A small reflector may have helped.

Check out this Canon Workshop site. Go to Tips and Techniques and then choose EOS Speedlight tips. There is some good info there (on streamed video).

Hope this helps.

thank you! I have gone through these many times!! Great resources... I did this with one 580 and one 420. The 580 to the diagnal right and the 420 to the left. I think the 420 is just too much though, should have changed the ratio if that is possible on the 420?

If you don't want any shadows, move the flashes closer to the camera. Flat lighting is what you'll get, if that's what you want. I happen to think Rembrandt lighting is much more attractive to look at, and it's more natural also. Rarely do we see people in real life with totally flat lighting. There's always some kind of ratio.

Great shot! Beautiful little girl. I always tell parents to either remove nail polish or polish nails fresh so they aren't half and half because I love hands in pictures! She is a doll, though! Nice job!

Use one light at 45 degree to the left or right side of the object. On opposite side to the light use only reflector. It can be white sheet of paper or aluminum foil pan lid. It should give you right light ratio.
Do not point face or shoulders straight on to the camera. Turn her to set shoulders at 45 to the camera and her nose should be pointing in direction of the main light to get very flattering Rembrandt /short/ style lighting. Tell her to lean forward and stretch the back to keep the backbone straight.
If you get these things as I tell you you will be best photographer around.
Regards - Waldemar
