hi all found this on holiday was about 6cm in lenth and a wingspan of about 7 1/2 cm (frightened the kids and wife. lol) im pretty sure its a hawkmoth but no doubt some of you who are better informed will correct me

ty brian just need a lot more practice to get the focus bang on, hopefully ill get as good as you one day...maybe need a longer macro lens..this 60mm is ok but you gotta get pretty close to the blighters to fill the frame

Agree a longer lens is more useful for dragons/butterflies and moths, but I wouldn't go much beyond 100mm for everyday use. I sometimes use my 200mm with ext rings for similar sized skitterish bugs.

Nice shots I always like the human contact shots, agree with Brian on ID, is your book same as mine Brian Butterflies of Britain & Europe a photographic guide by Paul Sterry????
Shoulda been £8 got it for £2, still waiting my Insect book,
