Nedd some help with "quoting"

How do you quote someone or just part of someone's previous post. I see id done all the time but don't know how to do it. I tried searching but didn't come up with anything. Thanks in advance.

If you wish to quote an entire post, you can just click the "quote" button at the bottom of their post. This will bring up a reply box, with their quote already in it. Once you have that, you can cut out bits that are not relevant to your reply if you wish (in case you want to comment on a specific point or sentence).

there are a couple ways to do it. First you can click on QUOTE at the bottom right of each post and that will automatically put the quote tags around the post. You can also do it manually by copying and pasting the text from a post and then using the wrap Quote tags around the text. This is located in the toolbar above the space you type your reply in and it looks like a pice of paper with writing. Or manually type soemthing like the following:

If you want to use the person's name it is done like this:

In both of these I have used a space between the [and the / so that you can see the text. Otherwise it would display a quote.

I would just add that it's almost never necessary or appropriate to quote an entire post, and one should generally limit quoting to the specific point being addressed.

Yes, I am thinking of those folks who quote a 167 line post, in order to reply with an "I agree," or "Thank you."

I would tend to agree... that's why I made mention of that very idea at the end of my initial post. However, one must be careful to quote enough so that comments are not taken out of context by people who only skim threads.

Yeah, you did mention it. But it's so frequently ignored that I felt it appropriate to emphasize the "only quote that which is necessary" rule.
