Im in the process of re-designing part of my website. I'm not sure if i completely like my current logo.

You can see my current logo below. When watermarking photos i include a copyright.

Has anyone got any ideas for a new logo. Maybe one that will look good semi transparent on the image corner as well as stand alone.

You can also see my business card. Any design ideas would be appreaciated. I'm not a designer as you can tell. I've tried so many ideas, but none of them look any good.

My website is www.chrispowellphotography.com (external link)

Thanks.

Look forward to any ideas you have.

Hmmmmm.....

Have you tried a different font or color? maybe a font that's more squiggly like handwriting or something? Or perhaps a red tone to the font for your name?

How exotic do you want to go with it? it's very simple right now and looks nice as is, but what are you thinking you'd like to see? Something wild and crazy or straight forward?

Hey Chris,

I think you're definitely on the track. As Rhinotherunt said, simplicity is key.
Some things to keep in mind when doing logo-design:

Make sure your logo works in color and grayscale.
This will save you if you ever need to do mass printing (brochure/business cards/flyers)
and color is out of budget, or not an option. If it is just text, this part is easy.

Keep it simple. It's important your logo works on a
small scale, as well as a large scale. Your logo needs to be versatile.

Make an impact. Will your clients remember your logo?
Is it identifiable if seen later? Does it leave an impression?

Hope this helps! These are just some basics I've learned from my formal studies in graphic design. The type of font you use should be dictated by the style of photography you plan to offer the most. Script fonts (squiggly like hand-writing) is great for wedding and portrait photography for example, while the same would not apply to sports photography. That would be more of a solid Sans-Serif font, like that found on Sports Illustrated. Just go with your gut instinct, it's usually right.

Cheers guys. Good to get some feedback. I've been pulling my hair out. i think i want a bit of colour in it, but just get it right. Just cant get anything that im happy with. I've come up with design after design, but nothing looks right.

I'll bear what you've said in mind, ill go back to the drawing board. I want to ensure its right before i commit.

For quick see I might take the t, e, w and not make it bold and perhaps change it to one of the grey colours
After the colons I might make it so the info is all aligned
Or perhaps I would eliminate them altogether
The @ seems a little to large
The phone number I would break apart in some fashion for it is difficult to read all the numbers in a row with no break
Any reason you have your domain name twice?
And maybe there is no need for you to have photographer under your name for it says photography already four times on the card
I like the different greys you have on your site and it matches your card which keeps the branding in sync
All the colour is in your work
Just a couple lunch break opinions/questions
Nice photos btw:cool:

I suck at logos, so I tried to balance out the business card layout a bit.

I agree on trying out different fonts and little dash of color. If you are looking at printed material where you may not have the budget to do colors, have the color part as an addon that can be removed.

In other words, the logo and the name and contact details coule be B/W but there is something else that is color on that space that is optional for print?

Never done anything like this, but trying to learn as I share my opinions :)

Hey Chris - Have you thought of having one of your best pics as part of your logo or background??

Hey Chris... overall I like the simplicity of your design. I would keep working it - though having the .com on there twice is a littel redundant.

I like your site too. My only suggestion is I would nuke the "action" catagory in your portfolio. It really is the weak spot you have in what is otherwise some really nice images. Since it is at the top, you don't want that to be one of the viewers first impressions. Combine those shots into another catagory and you would probably be better off until you have enough critical mass in that area. Just my opinion.

Action - gone, I just never got around to putting my best shots in there. Maybe when i get the chance.

If anyone else has any feedback Im all ears.

Just need a logo that I'm happy with.

Erika,

Thanks! It took me a whole two minutes. ;) It was the first thing that popped into my head. My personal logo took a little longer.

I believe simple is usually better, unless the fancy logo is very well done. The ballance of that card up the top seems a bit off to me.
