I strongly recommend THIS BOOK (external link) to anyone who's not a designer and wants to design a logo ... :)

Erika,

Thanks! It took me a whole two minutes. ;) It was the first thing that popped into my head. My personal logo took a little longer.

That's how it always works. It's easier to design for others, but our own stuff we're all much more picky about.

I like how Ryan used your initals together. Maybe a more solid font though?
Miss Smarty Pants in very different and catchy! I like hers too!

I've had another attempt today.

What do you think of these.
I'm not sure about layout on back, or what to do with large space. Any ideas?

Front and back...

I like the font better, even though it's not that much different. :) But I really have a hard timewith the gray color. It just doesn't pop for me, ya know? I'd suggest a blue, red or green tone....just test out different shades and see what happens. Even if you put a shadow color on it might help.

As for the empty space.....have you got a really pretty simple image to put there? One of your own pics or something? Even your avatar would look nice there. Just a suggestion. :) The dandy-lion pic you have on your site, and the peacock feather pic would be GREAT!!

Maybe something like this? (Sorry it's just a clip art image)

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Oh yeah!! I like that shade of blue too! It makes it stand out a little, and a little more memorable for me. Ya know? Looks nice....

Can't hardly wait to see the final product. :D

Ok, here's the back. Just cant make it look right.

Tried loads of images, but they just seem to over complicate it.

Chris, I don't really think that you need to have your name on the card twice. It seems a bit redundant to me. If you had a business name different from you own, then I could see using both the business name and your personal name as well. It seems fairly obvious to me, however, that your business is a one-person operation because of the use of your whole name instead of your last name only for the business name.

Try the Chris Powell and Photographer (photographer instead of photography) at the top and leave your name off the bottom.

You might give the viewer some idea of the type of photography you do. Examples might be Industrial, Portraiture, Weddings, etc. The artwork in a logo could portray this to some extent.

I am shooting for the simplicity as are others.

The wording works better for me, but something is missing in the layout. The composition needs something more. The center is blank and appears to need something.

Also, I think your name is a little too big relative to the "Photographer". By that, I mean that the fact that you are advertising yourself as a photographer doesn't come across well at first. First impression is always critically important in advertising of any sort.

Maybe a graphic of a classic view camera on a tripod (even though it isn't the sort of thing you may use) with a silhouette of a photographer peering under the dark cloth (maybe not the proper name) would get the message across visually.

Thanks again. I've changed the size of the text, looks much better.

I know exactly what you mean about the layout, something hits me as not right, i just cant find anything that looks professional enough without looking tacky.

Thanks
Chris
