3D panoramas? - amazing new technology from Microsoft

I just saw this on the BBC News: "Photos transformed into 3D model".

"Technology that transforms digital images into 3D models will be unveiled at a conference on Thursday. Microsoft's Photosynth takes collections of images, analyses them for similarities, and then displays them in a reconstructed 3D space. The system, to be previewed at a computer graphics meeting in Boston, will allow users to walk or fly through a scene to see photos from any angle. Microsoft says Photosynth should be available for use later this year."

Wow. Would I like to be able to play with that...

Stole my idea!

As I invest more time into this hobby, the one thing i would bet on that will definitely change photography as we know it right now - will be transformation of the art into 3D. Not to long before cameras are programmed to shoot to help production of 3d images and software that can do it in an 'idiotproof' way!!

Well, we still like out B&W photos - so, someone will like my bland 2d photos I suppose....

I wouldn't worry to much about radical changes to photography from Microsoft. I wish they would spend more time making Vista actually work. Let's hope they don't do for the imaging market what they did for word processing, desktop database, spreadsheets, networking, etc... it would be a very sad day. Remember when you actually had enough options that we had software stores? Ah, the good old days. I really hope Microsoft doesn't get any traction here at all.
