That product looks like nothing more than a couple of laminated sheets of cardstock, sort of like the ones I could make myself with DOF Master. I believe that HKFEVER has something a little more gadgety in mind.

We are designing a small keychain style digital DOF calculator.

"What IF!"

You could mount a DOF calculator on your hotshoe and it would read your f/stop and subject distance - to give a DOF readout. You could program that you never want less then 0.5" to 5' and it'll beep if your under your mark. Flipside, no on camera flash.

I'm headed for the patent office...

I like the idea of a simplified printed table or series of tables for focal lengths:
18, 24, 28, 35, 50, 70, 90, 135 and distances (in meters) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and apertures 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8. I don't think much else is really all that important.

Looks like the majority want one. Go for it and tell us when/where we can order.

Thanks, tghaines, for the link. I'm gonna try some of that freeware. I do think a keychain device would be mroe convenient compared to the PDA. I always have my PDA (phone editiion) on me but not always so accessible. A keychain device could be hung on your camera bag or maybe even on your neckstrap. And, if designed correctly, might be simpler to input the required data.

I also like the hotshoe idea but it seems there would be opportunity to market both. Obviously the keychain device would be much less expensive. This would leave room at the top end for the photo-geek type (which probably includes me), that would go for the sophisticated version.

I have been actually carrying one of these in my shirt pocket for many months. It is software called CDoF; it is ingeniously designed and it works extremely well: It is freeware that runs on my good old TRGpro PDA (similar to a Palm IIIx). You can customize it for most any digital camera out there. I first learned about it on this website. In the "about" screen it says to contact cort@cortscorner.com (external link) and says it is based on PDof by Matti J. Karki.

That's great, for those who have / carry PDAs, but it's not a universal solution.

Not a universal solution? What am I missing here? My PDA runs on 2 AA batteries and is the size of a pocket notebook. (However, if there was something like it that could hang on a keychain and not need batteries, that would definitely be an improvement!)
