Jessops branches vary between honest and scurrilous. My local branch when I lived in the UK varied from good to bad depending on who was there and what time of day it was. Mid afternoon, when it was quiet and the staff had all digested their lunches they were usually in a good mood.... That was the time to get bargains. If you ever haggle (which I do with independents) then you can get better bargains when the shopkeeper's just had his lunch and is gorged and sleepy.

Was in my 'local' Jessops at Bull Ring, Birmingham. Overheard a conversation which confirmed they would pricematch with a UK Company.

Birmingham Jessops opposite Rackams (Cherry Street ??)

The good :-

Price matched a 20D / 17-40 / 50 (1.4) / 70-300 IS

The bad :-

Had to order stock.

The 20D came with no battery

The 70-300 came as a 75-300  (a lens half the price), and t it was battered in a half bodged packing attempt.

Yeap, I would love to go back, but......

I would rather be dragged head first through a field of stinging nettles, during the great doc leaf shortage

I would rather suck moisture from a tramps underpants :D

Well today I bought a Lowepro Mini Trekker from the Lakeside branch.
They refused to price match online stores as it's £7 cheaper and their large Rocket Air is £1 more than everywhere else.
I only bought the bag today as I urgently need it for Silverstone 24hr race.
Total tight bastards.

Well i bought my 20d from there, it was the cheapest anywhere in the country at the time, and i got £100 rebate. The first one had a plastic spec on the focussing screen, i took it back, only 1 camera was left in stock, the display model this too had the same fault. They ordered one for me directly and it arrive in 2 days, i had an exchange. The service was excellent no argument they just swapped it, i have had trouble with exchanges and refunds at other stores saying they will do it after 30 days because that is their policy, which i find to be rubbish as they have your money and the product, and you have nothing for 30 days- rant over.
I think you are blaming jessops for something that is out of their control, its canons poor quality control standards that are to blame here i think. Do you think jessops check every canon camera box they sell?
In answer to your question i find their service superb, sure they are more expensive but isnt it a great feeling to know that you are dealing with a reputable company.
That my humble opinion anyway. Oh and if you are from uk there is a 10% discount coupon on their web business, they will refund products in store too, which is great!

Hi all,
How confident are all of you who have purchased camera,s from Jessops in the UK that you have purchased new goods,
You may remember my last post the other night stating I'd finally got my EOS 350 D well upon inspection the viewfinder already had a black speck in it,and the mirror plate inside was smudged,I have returned the item today for an exchange and upon inspecting the item at home tonight have discovered a small scratch on the edge at the top of the pop up flash, the package is exclusive to Jessops ie the silver bodied model and comes with a camera bag,the bag in the box tonight is smaller and different to the one I got on monday and is indeed different to the one on the box illustration,I Don't think I'm getting factory sealed merchandise what do you all think????
kindest regards
very disheartened
TYS

I have bought several cameras over the years from Jessops. None of them has ever actually worked. I don't know if I'm an oddity but I can guarantee that nothing I buy from Jessops will ever work. If I buy exactly the same model from across the road then I can pretty much guarantee it will work. I honestly am at a loss to explain this. The statistics are complete failure for gear from Jessops and complete success from The Camera Centre. My best guess is they buy cheap stock that's been kicked around a lot in the warehouse.

Ask the guys who work there (especially if you are friends with the managers).

Imagine you worked on a low wage (even shop managers), and loved photography like we do (some of them actually do !!).

Imagine you have lots of expensive cameras all around you !!

Would you play with them - maybe "borrow them" for a day out - often dropping them as they are not yours so who cares.

This probably applies to many high street stores - but I don't know them !!!

As long as you order off line - OR do not have a display model and MAKE SURE THE SECURITY TAG is intact then you are fine !!

Ignoring the "dropping" - do you know how hot those cabinets get ith the lights. One of the stores 5D's felt like it had come out of the microwave :D
