That is a good question. I don't use any of the programs You list and I don't extract the jpeg my self I do the raw convert.

But I did a goggle search and Breeze Browser for example can extract the jpeg.

I dont' think I would worry about . I been fine working with my camera for this long and never really needed to use the imbedded jpg anyway. Just processing the raw file I wont to use.

Maybe it is just habit, but I tend to shoot RAW, Large/Fine JPEG. Has been many times that the JPEGs are good enough to elminate the need/time for PP.

RAW only ... JPG is a waste of my time and HD space. Others may have a use for it.

What format do you guys shoot sports in? was curious because raw fill ups the buffer faster

Sports I go JPG only.
Unless white balance could be an issue and then I use RAW+JPG.

RAW, but recently I have only shot JPG. It depends on the camera you have. A 20D/30D/1D series will do just fine with RAW as well. It's just if you go trigger happy, you better have a good amount of cards.

When I shoot motorsports I shoot in jpg. My camera is faster in shooting in jpg than in raw. I am also talking about a large number of photos as well. I would take a lot of time to process that number of raw shots.

I would recommend that if you are going to be shooting sports in a location where the white balance could be a problem then using a gray card.

RAW plus Large Fine - RAW to the SD Card, JPG to the CF card (on a 1DIIN). For Fair/Festival photography it gives me a JPG to process quickly and print immediately, and a RAW file to archive (and or process if the JPG isn't quite up to snuff).

RAW plus L. I'm not sure whether I might go over to just RAW though. I save the RAW and the JPEG. If I go over to just RAW then I'll process the whole lot with an auto-process and save as JPEG - just in case CR2 files go out of style in the future.

i shoot mostly glamour/nudes and download the pics on my laptop during the shoot since i take aroung 1000-1500 per session. I do it because it helps me to :

1) choose the good pics much faster (just browse the small (1700 low quality 300kb jpgs instead of previewing 1000 raws)
2) show the model a preview of the pics so she can choose the ones she likes.

Could hardly live without Raw + tiny jpg

PS : For fineart JPG is NEVER good enough - always need to PP raw files. Don't kid yourself. I spend a whole day shooting 1000 shots and a week PPing the raws.

How do I set my 10D to shoot in both raw and large format JPEG? Does one of each download?

Unfortunately this function is nearly useless on the 10D as it embeds the JPEG in the RAW file and you need to use the Canon supplied software to extract it. It doesn't write seperate RAW and JPEG files which would be useful.
