not such perfect subject, what to do?

I have to take pictures of a not so perfect looking subject, i.e. skin quite rough, hair quite hard, etc etc...

what to do about this to make the subject look better then is.....other then using a soft focus lens which i find just blurs everything out too much

any other tips?

Peter, yes i agree but not so flattering to the subject to ask go put on some make up so she will look a bit decent in pictures ;)

Gerry thanks, ill look into that, need to see how my software allows me to do that, i only use the software which came with my 350D

You don't tell her to put make-up on so she will look decent, you tell her a little make-up will enhance her beauty and allow you to capture it so much better. ;)
