Hi All,

Somewhat of a n00b and was thinking that my next lens should be the 100mm Macro due to it's versatility with Macro and Portraits. I certainly have many examples of it's macro capabilities but was hoping some of you might post some portrait examples. Especially interested in its ability to shoot a full-length person as well.

So if you would all be so kind as to post some 100mm macro portrait shots it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Pete

Back in the day (film) anything between 85-135mm was considered appropriate for portraits. I assume you are using a digital body (don't forget to add the crop factor before selecting your lens). I think a 100mm macro would be too long for full-length shots in a studio setting, but the same lens may work really well outdoors. Sorry, I don't have any shots to post, just my opinion. As far as using the lens for macro work it will depend on what subjects you plan to shoot. For still life it should perform well....wait and see what a few others suggest. Good luck!

Mike

I really don't have any studio equipment right now so I was thinking mostly outdoors. My body is a Rebel XT w/1.6 crop.

I know skade has that lens. She had a picture of her daughter up about a week ago. Try a search with her name.

I have also been experimenting with this lens as a portrait lens... nothing to post yet... I tend to delete test shots unless they blow my mind... but I can say that the lens does have the capability when you hit that "magic range". :)

Might also want to look at the 85 1.8. It has great reviews. I have one on the way right now. I can put up a picture or two once I get to use it.

Thanks for the suggestions and links. pbase doesn't have a link to this lens and our thread doesn't really show portraiture. I'm sure it is a great lens from everything I've read here. I was just kind of hoping for some portrait examples.

Thanks anyways : /

It's a good lens, quite long for portraits, but it's very sharp and it works well. As a bonus it's also an excellent macro lens.
