Difference in noise between 350D kit lens and e.g. 17-40 L at high ISO?

I was wondering if there is any difference between the noise @ 1600 with the kit lens and a 17-40 L lens, shooting with a 350D? Is it possible that the weaker attributes of the kit lens (less resolution, not perfect color reproduction) get more “boosted”?

At the moment, I only have the kit lens, so this is not something I can try out myself :(

Yes if you are shooting at a proper exposure with one lens and an improper exposure with another. So yes, its possible. Now if they are both are proper exposures, then not, there shouldn't be a noise difference.

Image quality of course will show more wide open, since 18-55's sweet spot is around f/8.

Is it usually a good idea to try to shoot a bit overexposed and RAW when shooting at the highest ISO, and then lower the exposure in PP? Possible to get less noise that way?
