Anybody tried action photos (auto racing)???

Has anybody tried and gotten good results taking action photos? I'm talking about fast moving cars like Champ (Indy) and sprint cars. I've gotten good results with the 35mm equipment but I'm wondering if it's even worth the try with the G1.

If you're there anyway, why not try the G1.

I have taken action shots with the camera and have achieved good results. I never tried anything as fast as a race car. I would think it would be easier if the car was coming toward or going away from you at a slight angle, rather than zooming past right in front of you. I don't think the camera's shutter release would react quickly enough to get the shot. I would use manual mode and manual focus so the camera has little to do before releasing the shutter. Recovery for the next shot will take longer in RAW than in JPG. Practice on cars on your street before going to the race track.

Of course , these cars don't reach the phenomenal speeds of the Nascar bolides but , provided you follow the cars and select the highest possible shutter speed , it's all possible .
Selecting light metering and focus in advance is a must . It's not possible to get a picture if you depress the shutter from 'scratch' .
As John replied before me , a lot of practice will help once you'll be on the track . Why not shooting cars on the highway , if any possible , of course ?
