thanks all, richard these were taken at the red kite feeding station at Gigrin farm in Rhayader,Powys,Wales, definately worth a visit,i am guessing at there being over 100 kites in the air at once, they have had as many as 300 in the winter months,my hubby said next year we will stay at Gigrin for the week and explore the Welsh countryside (if he can drag me away from the kites :D )

Hi Shazz, Lovely shots, the Red Kite looks awsome and you caught him/her at a very nice angle showing of the very distinguishing forked tail. I have read about and seen a lot of great images from this location and think it's about time I paid it a visit for myself. It looks like you get a very good view of them, are you in a hide or in the open when they feed them?

Regards, Mark.

thanks Mark, you are in one of 5 hides, they have also just set up a new viewing area that isn't in a hide,it is definately worth a visit, after we went to Gigrin we drove on to Snowdonia and the views were just breathtaking,i recommend getting to the hides early when you go as they fill up very quickly, when we went one of the hides was reserved for a camera club so the others were pretty busy, they are also looking into building a high platform behind the hides for photographers, but not sure when or if that will take place

The little bird is keeping a very close eye out for the Red kite and hoping that he is not on the menu.
It's a magnificent shot of the kite. The light and colour underside is perfectly exposed, so it's nice and sharp and a good angle shot of the tail fanned out, well done.

This reminds me of the time the big dude was trying to force his way into my car with a knife, and all I had handy was a toenail clipper. I feel for the sparrow ;)

I also like the second photo. Look at the eye of that eagle, it's like a 400mm L on AI Servo, tracking pray like crazy. And even the first photo, as commented above, it conveys the message of both pics put together.

Cheers,
