Took my Sigma 10-20 back to supplier and they changed it for me. MUCHO IMPRESSA. What a difference it made too.

Always do it with a canon ...... Well nearly always

Thanks for your help (to all). I love the sharpness of that portrait of kiddy. Was that taken with no PP sharpening etc straight out of camera?

Thank you and yes, no PP. From RAW, through DPP into JPEG. Actually nowadays, my 10-20, 24-70 and 85mm 1.8 really don't need post processing.

HOWEVER

I see you exchanged your copy. Glad you are happy! Heh, sure makes a difference on how well you can sleep eh?

My Sigma 10-20 just arrived a few hours ago...and I am wondering the same thing...is it the lens or me...

This is one of the photos I took with it...I didn't know where to focus and am not sure where I did focus...

Can you tell anything by the picture? No PP editing done...

Also I will include a 100 % crop!

Thanks...another worried lens buyer...

Margie _ the EXIF data has been stripped. Anytime you resize an original image for web hosting its going to need some type of sharpening added. You also would be better off using an image hosting service for your photos too as these have artifacts due to the compression in resizing.

Just looking though the quality seems alright to me.

To test sharpness, you ideally want to shoot a subject/scene that is flat. If you shoot a very deep scene, something will be out of focus most of the time.
A 100% crop from a shot that is soft b/c it is not in focus will never be sharp so I'd suggest shooting a flat subject, Iike that old brick wall and see how things look.

OK _ but its still too hard to tell due to the compression loss, even in the flower photo. Look around the outside edge of the red petals on the Gerber Daisy.

Thanks so much...it is always a worry to think I might not have a sharp copy!

It would be nice if Sigma could calibrate their lenses prior to selling them. After all if they were perfect out of the box, I would be on my way to having a siggy collection instead of scratching my head.

But a thing about UWA lens, they are not sharp like a normal lens. They should be reasonable sharp but I have not seen a tack sharp one like there are with 24-70's or 70-200's lenses.

Also in both of those photos it looks like the sky maybe playing into the exposure.

Chris...Yes, you are right...I have heard so much bad press about the sigma that I was almost afraid to order it...but then did anyway.

It had rained earlier and then the sun came out, so you are right...it was very bright out and still had some dark clouds.

I will keep trying and keep posting. If you see anything that tells you that it needs to be returned, please let me know. I would really appreciate it!
