Seagull in flight

Just been on holiday to the Isle of Wight (nice place) and when i was on the ferry to come back home i was taking some random shots of the area and the seagulls, i took about 50 shots of the seagulls in total and this is the only one that came out any good. its the third shot in. what do you think. im still learning how my camera works etc.
this isnt the full pic its the top right quater of the pic, ive just cropped out everythnig else

Nice. The focus is pretty good, the background is nicely blurred, and the lighting is great. I'd be very happy with this!

I like the original also.. Although the crop is good too...you have a good focus on the bird.. it pops out at you..

Because the herring gull is to the right of the picture in the original you did the right thing to crop it. It does look better. Though some may say the original because the crop version looks a little too tight.
When we take bird shots in-flight it's good to give them room where they are flying into.
You have picked up good detail in the Gull, not an easy feat when they are flying and the whites can easily be blown out if the lighting is too bright or the camera settings are set to allow too much light into the camera.
This is nice and sharp, so well done on an excellent good in-flight shot.

it was really a shot in a million, i doubt i will be able to get a flying bird shot this good for a while
