i'm traveling to Thailand/Hong Kong for 2 weeks. I only have 2 batteries, so I probably won't have enough to last for 2 weeks. I was wondering if these countries use the same electrical outlet as US so that I can use the battery charger? Or will I need to get an adapter? If so, what/where can I get these adapter?

another option is to just buy 2 more steringtek batteries?

thanks!!

HK is 220 volts. But the stadard Canon charger will work @ 220V (check the sticker on the charger - it should be 100 - 220V). Also, many places in HK have already converted to the new electric recepticle so the North American standard 2 flat prong plug (assuming you're in North America) will work with these recepticles. If not, you can always go to Temple St night market to pick up an adapter.

In HK, you can pick up an adapter just about anywhere; corner stores, convenience stores (like Wellcome), appliance stores (like Fortress). These stores can also be found in the airport departure level. Price ranges from HK$10 to $20 with LED indicators.

Do NOT use voltage convertors on ELECTRONICS...the square wave output can destroy electronics! (I have burned out a 110v cellphone charger!) Use voltage convertors with things 'electrical' (shavers, hair dryers, curling irons) but not things 'electronic'. If your battery charger is 110v/220v rated (on the label) there is not problem just using an adapter to make the mechanical connection compatible, the dual voltage charger takes care of the voltage conversion to the DC needed by the batteries.
