Look - in all honesty, the D80 will sell like hotcakes and will take sales away from the 20D/30D/350D. The vast majority of consumers buying digital SLRs now are not serious photographers, but point and shooters who have no idea about what they're doing, or what to look for in a camera. They buy these types of camera because they look flashy, and they think that it'll automatically take better images. Things like noise at high ISO etc they don't have a clue about. Try it - hang out and a camera store and talk to prospective buyers about camera choices, mention things like ISO etc. You'll get lots of blank looks back. And worst, most customers don't want to know what it is. They'll leave the camera in p&s mode and never change it.
Most consumers will look at brand name, styling, and megapixels. I had to explain yesterday that a 4mp digital compact will not provide the same level of quality images as my 1D. He looked and sounded doubtful, and he's of above average intelligence. I tried briefly explaining to him why, and he sort of cottoned on to it all, but again, wasn't totally confident.
