A few shots from the New Era motorbike racing over at Donington Park - just a random shoot for fun so I just played about with locations for future events at the circuit.

All comments welcome!

Nice Pictures. I went along today also… Like winter wasn’t it !!!

I really struggled to find a good position close enough to the track for a 300mm, any advice on how you got these good positions would be great…..(I was on the outside of the fences)

Your last picture with the couple of lads on the CB500’s gave a good race, I got a couple of them also.

I went to see a mate race but didn’t get many good shots. Number (1)46 a Mr Loopy Lewis. He binned it in qualifying and struggled to get the set up correct after that (bent bits and pieces) and finished 8th in the 12 lapper. Maybe you got a better pic of him ?

I also liked some of the super moto’s in the sounds of thunder race. Would have included pics them but don't know how you can post more than a couple of pics at the moment ! Bl***y computers......

Just looked at the posting and I don't know what I have done to my images but to make them fit they are very grainy and as sharp as butter !!

As I said yours look very nice and sharp. One day I will get more images like yours..

Without press access, Donington's a tough place to shoot without a big lens; although even I spent the day shooting with my 300mm with the 2xTC.

When they're using the full GP circuit, you can shoot with the 300mm on the outside of Melbourne, not sure where else you can on the other side of the fences!

Nice shots Pete, I like your last shot the best, not sure about the angled shots though a bit to arty IMO? You have done well to get any shots a Donington! I guess your shooting position is the only place to shoot without a fence in the way.

Cheers

Cheers for the comments, only saw this thread pop up again by sheer chance!

I'm keen to provide a variety of shots when shooting motorsport, I've found that editors like a mix of arty stuff and the simpler editorial shots (Magazines and newspapers often go for different styles of photography). It works mainly with bike racing, giving an added dynamic to some of the generic flat horizon images which can get dull if you're shooting a full 3 day race weekend.
