Grip extension for G2?

I'm a veteran EOS Elan, Optura and Mavica (blech) user and I am not ashamed to say I LOVE this camera!

The only thing I don't like about it -- after 2,000+ frames in a month -- is the fact that it's not hand-friendly when it needs to be constantly at the ready. Evidently Canon doesn't have a G2 grip extension in the works.

I shoot a lot of weddings and tradeshows and I really miss my Elan grip. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

Fred, the only thing that comes to my mind is to grab yourself a Lensmate adapter.

You can use this to handle the cam like an SLR and you dont have to have a filter on the end if you dont like.

My shots are much more steadier with this as I can hold the barrel of the adapter.

Thanks, Carl. I'll give that a try, especially considering how inexpensive they are and that I'll be killing two birds with one stone by doing so.

Hi Fred,

I too miss a decent grip on the G2, however, a store manager of a national photographic chain of shops here in the UK, a Canon user himself, informed me that 'Stitz' are to release a dedicated grip and flash bracket for the G2 in the spring.

Hope this helps,
Barry

Get a Lensmate, I concur. You then hold the bottom of the Lensmate with your left hand the way you would hold the lens on a SLR camera. I just got mine 2 days ago and love it. It really makes the G2 easier to manipulate.

Please tell me more if you can about this proposed grip! This sound like just what I am looking for. What is "Stitz"? I am in Tennessee...

A lensemate really helps me to hold the G2 more comfortably. I like my G2 very much with a lensmate.

However:

(1) The lensemate appears in the viewfinder.
(2) When the built-in flash is used at the wider end of the lens, the right-bottom part of the image will be darkened. So, i have to remove the lensmate at this time.
(3) My G2 is champainge. But, the lensmate is black! I do not like the black color of the lensmate at all. Of course, if my G2 were black, the black lensemate is not a problem at all.

Neverthless, i like the G2 with a lensmate on it.

I just received my champainge-colored Lensmate today. The site said they were backordered and didn't expect them in until March 8. I made my order ON March 8 (Friday) and it arrived today (Monday). Not bad! Starting off with, I only got the UV filter, but plan on ordering others to play with.

Hi
Just a thought, what about the old flash brackets that mounted to the tri-pod socket on SLR`s before they came with built in grips. It would also remove you flash head off the camera for better lighting if you use it with a hot shoe adaptor.
Regards
Tony
