being the only person in my close social circle who likes photography i seem to always be the only with a camera at any social event/gathering and as such i always draw criticism and comments from the people who 'hate' their photo being taken and will do that thing where they hide their face with their hands like some celeb who's being papped.

ok some people dont like their photo's being taken i understand that, it's just when the exact same people come up to you soon after or a few days later and say "oh how did those photos come out, were there any good ones?" erm NO they were all ruined by stupid people pulling funny faces and hiding from the camera.

i'm guessing this type of behaviour is gained because they always see celebrities doing this on tv and mimick their actions. of course what they dont see is the hundreds of times these same celebrities pose and 'perform' for the camera to get all the wonderful shots you see of them in magazines and all over the place. i'm not asking for them to pose or anything, just want to capture some good looking candid shots that we could both benefit from.

what do you guys(& gals of course :) ) think?

Or it could be that they just really don't like the way they look in photographs! :)

One of the reasons I got into photography was so that I could be the one BEHIND the camera, not in front of it. But I do understand your frustration because even though I don't like MY picture taken, it always annoys me when people tell me to delete photos of them that I think are perfectly good!

i did say i understand some people just dont like it, my problem is these people who protest and make a show of it but then want to see the photos later after they've pretty much ruined any chance you had of getting any nice shots.

That's why I don't bring my camera to social events, typically not worth the hassle.

I tend to have the opposite problem. Most of my friends are camera hounds, and if I didn't bring a camera they would think I was sick or something.

I do understand though, but why can't you simply tell them, "if you want a good picture of yourself, you need to cooperate the next time I pull the camera out."

I can understand how they feel. I absolutely hate to be photographed.

My girlfriend hates her picture being taken, but when I catch her off-guard or force her to smile, she looks wonderful (but then I'm biased!)

I know other friends who also hate to be photographed and that winds me up, so I end up perservering until I managed to get a good shot and then it's "Oh, that's a good picture of me, when did you take that?"

amen!! I hate to get my photo taken. I can't explain it don't really have a great reason for it I just really, really don't like seeing my face in pictures.. I do my best to not have an attitude about it.. But, i'm not faking when I tell you that I really don't want to see any pictures of myself. But, when folks tell me they don't like getting their photo taken I believe them and tend to respect their privacy.
