Why not go for one more and you'll have a tripod.....;)

Great idea - now all I need is a camera bracket with three tripod sockets. . .

Have Fun,

For most sports, I find that the ball head isn't necessary. However, I've found them to be useful for nature shots where camera and subject positions can change greatly from shot to shot.

I have read on several occasions in this forum that people use a ball head on their monopod. My question is why? It's a stick. It can easily rotate on the ground. and I also don't see why, unless you had the monopod at an odd angle to the ground, why you'd even need a fully adjustable head. If it's being held at such an odd angle, just hand hold.

I have a monopod, and I have never found a use for a complex head unit yet.

Just my observation, and curiosity.

I use a head on my monopod for the ease of removing the camera.

You never see pros using ballheads with monopods at sporting events when they have lenses with collars. You very quickly learn how to tilt as well as pan.

So what is the proper technique to keeping a camera with a heavy long lens level? Do you keep the collar loose?

i just realized i have the ball head on the tripod and a monopod head on the monopod. It's pretty handy anyhow. I can get the part number if you need it.
