CDS, hope it's okay with you. If not, delete immediately and accept my apology.

I told my Mollie about your loss and she sat down thinking pensively about it. She would love to give you a hug.

What a magnificent resume Bumpus has. She has touched the lives of so many.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.

I feel your loss. Our beloved golden retriever died 2 years ago at the age of 18. She grew up with our kids and was the official school bus greeter at our neighborhood stop for most of her life. Still miss her when I see the bus come down the street. How nice for you that you got to be Bumpus family, how sad to lose her.

Well I only knew Bumpus and got to hang out with her a few times over the years but I really did love that dog. Its kind of strange how a great animal like that can really touch you after only a handful of meetings. Sorry to hear about your loss Jake.

In a tradition that I started many years back I raise a glass and toast...

TO BUMPUS. ONE OF THE GOOD DEAD ONES.

(dont take that the wrong way, that toast has a special place in my heart and is reserved for only the best of the best)

It is amazing how much dogs mean to us. 5 years ago I had the same experience in putting down my beloved Springer Spaniel , Benny. I felt I could never suffer that again and resolved to be "dogless". Well, as you can see from my avatar, Lucky found me--he knew, I needed a buddy. My most sincere condolences.

Events like this show what a community we have here. It's good to be able to celebrate a life well lived, and good to that we can share together in the sense of loss.

I think a good friend of mine is within a few days of losing her oldest dog. I spoke to her last night and could hear it in her voice. She put it into words in an email this morning. Our furry friends stand so significantly in our lives.

Go gentle on yourself, CDS - very best wishes to you and Roo.

David

Jake,
I feel your pain and lonelyness. May Bumpus rest in peace in a better world full of the stuff she loves.

We would have felt your sorrow anyhow. But your eulogy (and Thomascanty's too) made it our own.

May her memory last.

I just finally read this, and can't add much that others haven't said already. I'm sorry for your loss, and Bumpus is a beautiful, beautiful dog. Very well written and excellent capture Jake.

As many have said, it certainly sounds like Bumpus touched many. While I know the pain of a lost loved one is hard, at the same time, celebrate Bumpus' success in being so much to so many. Many go a lifetime and don't touch so many lives.

Rest In Peace Bumpus.
William

How is Roo doing?
I remember when it was Priscilla's time we carried her out to the car through the kitchen door to the garage. Her son Bayley watched us depart. When we returned Bayley was there watching the door. He went out and searched the garage, something he has done regularly for some time.
Give Roo my love.

i'm crying.. just a little... It's crazy how attached we get to our pets.. when I was seventeen I moved to my own little apartment.. about a week later my twelve year old brother brought me this little brown and black ball of fur... I named her Molly and she was exactly what I needed... I think anyone who has ever loved a pet understands what your going through.. They are companions and friends and a part of the family.. and sometimes, our only family...

RIP Bumpus. :(

I had a dog when i was young, we took him with us to greece when we moved there, unfortunately when we left 2 years later we couldnt take him with us (6 months in quarantine in australia just didnt sound fair on him) so we left him with our relatives, to this day i still think about him often but i kow he was in a better place, he actually ended up at the very top of greece hunting wild pigs and from what we were told he became somewhat of a legend in those parts.

We now have 4 cats and i can honestly say unequivocally that they are our family, one in particular is my best friend, my brother and support, i sometimes refer to him as 'dog' as he is loyal and friendly as one but has the personality of a cat.

So from someone who has gone through a similar loss i feel your pain and always remember Bumpus.
