So this is my first post since I just got a Rebel XT with a 17-85mm lens. i took this when the sun was going down. i would love some C&C for i need it.

Hey Mike I think you did a great job here since you just got your camera. I really like the elements here with all the clouds and water ..

Very nice, well done on the exposure. It looks spot on, you caught a lot of interesting details there.

One thing I would suggest, is that you try a crop to avoid the horizon dividing the image 50/50, sometimes more-like 30/70 (or vice-versa) can work better. Try it out and see. :)

edit: Turn on your 'Image Editing OK' so that people can show what they mean when C&C'ing. :)

In your picture I can see middle (houses-boats) background (clouds) but there is nothing for the forground which is supposed to lead you into the picture.

Hi Mike, and a warm welcome to the forums :D

Its a great start, and you've already had some good advise on how it could be improved so I won't repeat it.
Perhaps a crop of the water would satisfy 2 of the suggestions made. It would create some foreground interest with the boats and alter the position of the horizon.
