I got an email from the forums saying that someone was trying to log into my account, and the IP wasn't mine...that's not good:confused:...does it happen often?

Why would someone do that? Weird. All I know is that some spammer was typing almost as fast as I was yesterday and boy, was I mad. I hope a Mod really zapped him. :) ;)

That's never happened to me. I'm glad you got a message that warned you. Someone could be typing their name wrong? Maybe.

If You send me the IP in PM I can check to see if it is a registered usere here. Maybe its a typo, maybe a user with a similar name have forgotten the exact id. Maybe it is a spammer that is trying to guess passwords at random.

Yep we zap the spammers as soon as we see them. It is good that you report spammers :D but if it is the same spammer you only need to report it once. We allways check the post history so we should get all of it.

I agree. It is amazing that they keep coming back. They surely must know they get zapped quickly.

Well I log in from several locations, with different IP addresses, and have never got a message like that. Maybe you need to check the email is authentic and from POTN and not a means of getting you reveal your user details.

Good idea. I'm on the road a lot, and frequently check in from multiple locations in a single day, and have never received a notice like that.

Me neither and thinking about it I accidently forgot to logout of the computer I used at drill this last weekend with the national guard. I know no one would log into my account here and post absurd things... And that computer is really only used by me anyhow unless they take it somewhere for a class.

Other than that, I login at various places as well... Not one message like you received.

I noted on the member list that there are several "sean" with "m" as the last name initial incl;uding one "Sean M" ...

It's possible that a legitimate member simply forgot the space or password etc, and was trying many variations to get logged on.

I think You'd only get the message if the attempts were several and failed. (try logging on to your own account several times with the wrong passwoprd and you'll eventually get a notice, and no more tries.. )

Hi, guys this was the exact message, I may have been unclear earlier.

"Your account on Canon Digital Photography Forums has been locked because someone
has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You
will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address:
**************
"

Better hope you didn't just give up your IP. That'd suck.
