I am looking to buy a flash for my digital rebel XT. I want to use it primarily on a flash bracket, not directly on the camera's hot shoe. Will I need some sort of accessory cable to do this? Will that depend on which flash I buy?

I'm new to using a flash and would use it mostly for nature/landscape and natural light portrait fill-in. Due to price considerations, I'm thinking of purchasing the Sunpak PZ40X or PZ40X II but would appreciate other recommendations. Mostly, I want to make sure I can use it off-camera on a bracket.

Will that cord work with any brand of flash that is designated for a Canon?

Yes. Electrically, it'll be like you're attaching your flash directly on the hotshoe.

Try the promaster ettl off camera cord, it runs $10-$15 less than Canon's.

I have a cheaper (not especially cheap) 3rd party off shoe cord and I have problems with it not firing occasionally. I find myself having to disconnect and reconnect it in order to make a good contact. Might be worth laying out the extra few £,$,€ what have you or an original and only paying out once.
