Sorry to disappoint, I don't have any pictures... yet.
I'm going there this coming weekend. I was just curious to know if any of you have gone and could shed some insight on which hikes would be best to take and maybe provide some sample shots of what you captured on your trip.

Thanks in advance.

Aren,

I was in Zion in early June this year. Wonderful place! Please, see my Zion and Bryce gallery at the link in my signature.

What exactly are you looking for? I am not a Zion expert, but I might be able to give some pointers.

Happy shooting,

Johan. More gear than I can list in one line... :-)

Aren,

I'm right there let me know what kind of hikes you want to do and how much time you'll have. Looks like a perfecr weekend to get your feet wet in the Narrows. I don't know why my link doesn't hilite but cut and paste it for some Zion pics.
You can e-mail me at NJedge@aol.com (external link).

Have fun,
Win

You can easily make the Narrows hike an all-day event. It's a nice hike, especially this time of year--when I went it was in the 80's on the hike, while the main canyon was 103 all day).

Here's a couple of shots right at the Narrows (as I undertand):

there's a good book called "Photographing the Southwest, Vol. 1, which deals with Zion, Bryce, etc.

I'll be there next week myself. Lots of gear, little knowledge. Hope something good comes of it.

For people that don't know, there are basically two hikes called the Narrows. The one most people will do is at the last shuttle stop, Temple of Sinawawa. Here you follow the "river walk" to its end and enter the Virgin River narrows. A good hike is to go up to the junction with Orderville Canyon on the right. Takes about 4 hours round trip. You can rent "watershoes" and hiking sticks just outside the park in Springdale.

The second hike involves going out of the park on the East side to the trailhead for Orderville Canyon and hiking that down to
the Virgin River. I believe it's 17 miles and best done as an overnite. Permit required!

Whatever you do, don't miss driving up thru the tunnel and out onto the East side. Great scenery and some nice short hikes in the drainages.

Very nice information! I plan to visit Zion, Bryce next year.

I have a question. Is it too cold to go in May (i'm a southerner, 60s is a kinda cold for me :D)? I have once seen a photo of Bryce Canyon in partial snow (early spring?). The red rock and white snow create a beautiful contrast. Thus makes it photogenic. Are Zion and Bryce closed in winter?
I guess that's two questions. :o

May is pretty nice out here, you'll survive!LOL A little cold for the Narrows without a dry suit. Zion and Bryce are open all year. The facilities at Bryce are closed until mid-May, I think. Zion is a go all year, the canyon floor barely gets any snow, just the higher elevations.

The year we went there was hardly any water. I didn't have good film for my camera and it all got ruined so I missed it all. But the hikes are quite long and very easy to walk on. Just make sure you have a good wide angle lens.
